Do you know the history of the ice cream scoop? If not, keep reading as we dig into it! Alfred L. Cralle was an African American who was born in Virginia in 1866. He attended local schools and became interested in mechanics. Later he served as a porter in a hotel. He saw hotel workers that had trouble scooping ice cream with a spoon! To fix the problem he made an ice cream scoop. Cralle later applied for a patent and got one for his invention.
The ice cream scoop had a handle mechanism so that you could squeeze the handle and scrape the rest of the ice cream inside! So the next time you scoop ice cream, you might think about Alfred Cralle’s incredible invention!
