Diversity of Emotions

Imagine that you have been wanting something for a very long time, and then one day someone gives it to you without telling you. How would you feel? Perhaps a bit shocked, but probably really happy that you got want you wanted. And what about when you’re walking outside on a nice day, seeing pleasant sights and listening to the wonderful sounds all around you? This experience can evoke positive emotions as well.

Most people enjoy experiencing positive emotions. Joy, happiness, wonder, delight—these are all emotions that people like to feel. However, even though good emotions feel good, negative emotions are important to recognize too. For example, if someone does something that embarrasses or saddens you, perhaps this can be a sign that you should not associate with them. Or if passion turns into anxiety, this can be a sign that you should calm down a bit.

It is important to be aware of all of our emotions, whether positive or negative, and make sure they are proportionally balanced. When this happens, we can see that both positive and negative emotions can cause us to have a fulfilled and fruitful life.
