Boooooo~ Halloween is just around the corner! Friendly scares, costumes, and loads of candy will be had by many in less than a week. Everywhere, adults and children prepare to give out treats (or tricks) or dress up in colorful costumes, or maybe do both. The season is about to ramp up, and people are ready for a howling good time!
Any kid knows that the ultimate objective of Halloween trick-or-treating is to come home with a sack full of candy, almost too heavy to lift. And most kids know that the candy they gather doesn’t have to be for sharing with peers! But in reality, Halloween is actually a prime time for generosity. Consider this: If the people who were handing out candy felt selfish and wanted to keep all the sweets for themselves, trick-or-treating might not exist in the delicious modern form many enjoy nowadays. People might only indulge in the trick side of the holiday, and that would probably make Halloween a scary and even dangerous time. Yikes!
You can make someone else’s “Happy Halloween” a little bit more special with just a little sharing, all by yourself. A kid’s bag looks a bit empty, or he wasn't able to go trick-or-treating? Give him a few of yours (bonus points if you give away ones you actually like). Someone you know has a nut allergy? Let her have some of your gummy candy (with the proper permissions, of course!)
At the end of the day, Halloween is a time for sweets, laughter, and scary good fun. And none of that would be possible without a little generosity. So if the opportunity arises for you to do so this Halloween, don't forget to spread happiness with the power of sharing!
