Thanksgiving is a very special time of year. It traditionally marks the start of the holiday season, and is a time when friends and family get together to hang out and eat many delicious foods. Different traditions will also be upheld, such as a mother teaching her children how to make special dishes, playing games with friends, or even watching the big Thanksgiving football game!
However, even though these traditions are great, we have to be careful not to lose sight of the point of Thanksgiving- to be thankful! That may seem obvious, but it can become easy to forget about giving thanks because of all of the other fun events.
Instead, we should be reflecting on the things we ought to be grateful for all day! This doesn’t necessarily have to be a formal reflection; it could just be as simple as “I am very thankful to have my family here with me right now” or “I’m so glad to have a working TV so I can watch this game!” Think of giving thanks as a privilege and delight instead of a requirement, and you will feel very blessed by all the things you have around you for which you can be thankful.
