Managing Emotions

Joy, regret, giddiness, anger–any human knows that emotions play a significant role in  life. Early on in history, they aided human survival in various ways; fear sharpened senses and fueled escapes from danger, stress and sadness could encourage cohorts to help troubled individuals, and happiness strengthened bonds and could even increase lifespans. Today, humanity still deals with inherent feelings, but now they influence a wide range of circumstances, i.e  frustration from missing a favorite program, disgust at taking out the trash, or embarrassment from speaking too loud at the library. Left unchecked, emotions can take over a person’s life, and it can be difficult to properly control them. Instead of ignoring or condemning personal emotions, one should accept feelings as they are, and gently correct them if needed. According to the Bible, presenting emotional issues to the Lord and trusting Him opens the door to a peace that “surpasses all understanding” (Philippians 4:7). And with time, one can foster enough patience and control to gain complete control over themselves in any situation! So at the end of the day, emotions may be deeply interwoven into the human experience, but with compassion, trust, and steadfastness, emotional dominance is easily acceptable and can help a person even thrive in the world today!
