Positivity can be a life-changing habit. Applied to one’s outlook on their circumstances, it can change how a person sees reality and influence their present and future. Not only is an upbeat perspective highly influential, it can also be quite practical! When you face a tough situation, such as a heated sports competition or a tough school deadline, your mind kicks into fight or flight mode, and anxious thoughts can pour in. The general phrases of anxiety–”What if something goes wrong?” “There’s no way I’ll finish on time!” or “I can’t do all that!”-- are generally more negative than positive, and essentially describe non-existent scenarios and waste precious space and energy in your brain. However, interrupting this torrent with positive thoughts–”I’ve got this” and “This is going to be an awesome challenge!”, for instance–eliminate the needless negativity and shed light on the truths about yourself and your future. In addition, many studies have shown that positive thinking may extend your life span and keep you healthier overall, adding to the list of boons that this kind of thought process can bring! So next time you encounter a difficulty and are tempted to think negatively, implement positive thinking and cultivate this discipline to reap its many practicalities!
